Xaquín is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Economy at the Faculty of Economic Science, University of Warsaw. He is a member of the Environment and Society Research Group at the Department of Geography, University of Copenhagen. His expertise lies in guiding communities through just transitions as energy landscapes evolve. He has gained valuable insights from hands-on work in fossil fuel and coal mining areas, studying the social impacts of booms and closures in Spain. This experience extends to practical research in former coal mining regions in eastern Germany and El Cesar, Colombia. It has given him a deep understanding of the complex socio-economic factors involved in energy transitions.
