Barbara Di Piazza is a senior professional with extensive expertise in European Territorial Cooperation, programme governance, and multilevel coordination. Active since 2002, she has held leaderships roles in several Interreg programmes (Interreg IIIC East, Interreg IV B Central Europe, Interreg IVA Italy–France Maritime, Interreg VB Adriatic Ionian) and currently serves as Programme Director of the Interreg VI-B IPA ADRION Programme. She brings significant experience in the design, management and evaluation of calls for proposals, having assessed large volumes of project applications (typically 250–300 per call). Her responsibilities have encompassed defining evaluation methodologies, conducting eligibility and admissibility checks, implementing quality assessment procedures, developing monitoring and performance frameworks, as well as strategic planning and management of technical assistance.
Barbara's thematic expertise spans the environment, circular and green economy, innovation, sustainable transport and mobility, nature conservation, and climate action. She is highly skilled in stakeholder engagement, fostering multilevel governance structures, and enabling triple and quadruple helix partnerships.
She provides strategic advice, capacity-building, and technical support to programme authorities and institutions involved in transition processes, with a strong focus on governance, compliance, monitoring, risk management, and quality assurance. Barbara is recognised for her analytical acumen, reliability, and collaborative approach in working with EU institutions, national and regional authorities, and diverse stakeholder groups.
