Tereza Crisu is a research engineer transitioning from coal mining in Canada and the UK to the growth of renewable energy and the provision of the energy infrastructure needed for a low carbon world, with a particular research interest in energy, climate change and technological innovation. With a background in civil engineering, mining and mineral processing, and project management, she has skills and knowledge that are transferable to the new commitment to net zero and carbon reduction.

She acts as an external expert and reporter for the evaluation of RFSC funded projects in the areas of methane production and recovery through underground coal gasification, management of environmental risks during and after mine closure, integrated underground fibre optic instrumentation, mine surveillance and miners' health and safety equipment, land reclamation and ecological restoration of areas affected by coal mining, advanced methane drainage strategy – technology using underground directional drilling to prevent major risks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable use of mine tailings, post-mining issues: safe and productive coal mining, reduction of risks from occupational exposure to coal dust, integration of the coal chain from mining to final products (electricity, heat, hydrogen, coke and synfuels), supporting the just transition of the coal sector and regions Improving health and safety, minimising the environmental impact of coal mines in transition.
