Katharina Krause is a scientific project assistant at the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR). Within the Competence Centre for Regional Development, she specialises in the transformation of German lignite mining areas, with a particular focus on the social aspects of structural change processes. Katharina's research revolves around understanding the perceptions and experiences of those affected by lignite mining resettlement, conducting qualitative research in regions such as Lusatia and the Rhenish mining area. She has also actively participated in planning events to inform and engage young people in Lusatia about climate change and the coal phase-out. She has also been involved in organising ideas competitions to support the transformation of all three German lignite mining areas.
