Balázs Hegyi currently works as Environmental Expert for the Coal Commission Secretariat in Northern Hungary. He graduated with both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in geography, specialising in renewable energies and regional management. In his work, he focuses on topics related to energy poverty and energy communities, and he is actively involved in the development of the Hungarian Territorial Just Transition Plans, incorporating local needs based on stakeholder consultations. He participated in the mapping of energy poverty in Northern Hungary, selecting key settlements and coordinating the energetic survey of these settlements. Moreover, he is a member of the District Heating Working Group of the EU's Initiative for coal regions in transition.
